Do you want to add a blank spacer to the 
Mac OS X Dock? Well, You can easily add a 
blank spacer to the Dock of your Mac 
OS X. Simply you have add a defaults write command in 
the Terminal of your 
Mac OS X. You can see in the below image there is a space between the 
iChat icon and Firefox icon. Simply follow the instructions give below to add a blank spacer to the 
Mac OS X Dock.

How to Add a Spacer to the Mac OS X Dock
STEP 1. In order to 
add a blank spacer to the Mac OS X Dock simply open the Terminal and the add the given 
command into the Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add ‘{“tile-type”=”spacer-tile”;}’
STEP 2. Now you have to kill and relaunch the Dock to see the spacers between two icons. In order to kill and relaunch the Dock simply add the given command:
killall Dock 
If you want to move the Dock spacers then simply you have to drag them around the Dock just like other 
icon. Similarly drag them out of the Dock to remove the spacers. Simply use the defaults write command same number of times if you want multiple spacers. For this, within the Terminal you have to hit the “Up” arrow on your 
keyboard to bring up the commands those are executed earlier
